We are the clay, you are the potter...
12/04/2017 .I have a small vase that sits on my dresser. It’s something I picked up along the way on one of my travels, before I started buying more practical souvenirs like key chains and magnets. At first glance, it may not seem like anything special, just random bits of glass glued back together into a new shape. But as I stare at it lately, it has become to mean so much more to me.
This vase has become a representation of my life. Each broken piece is a piece of me that has been broken at some time in my life. A missed opportunity, a mission trip I should have taken, a friend I should have called, a hurt feeling, a relationship lost. But each broken piece, if left all alone, would be useless and it would be hard to make anything out of it. However, take all the broken pieces and put them together and you have a beautiful piece of art.
You see, this is what God has done for us. He is able to take each of our broken pieces, each shattered part of our lives and he can shape all that into the most beautiful work of art. Each broken piece is necessary in order to make the whole.
As I look closer at my unassuming vase, I see pretty colors, unique design, and something altogether lovely. Maybe this vase is a little bit of all of us.
“Yet you, LORD, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)
