Helping People Heal From Sexual Abuse
01/30/2018 ..
Last weekend we heard Kay Warren and Beth Moore’s courageous message on helping people heal from sexual abuse—no doubt an epidemic in our society. They were generous with their hearts as they shared their most fragile and broken parts. It was an honor for every listening ear, for both men and women alike
What, then, shall we consider the biggest “take away”? That our God cares for our pain and longs to make things right? That we seek the support of our church? Or that we embrace Pastor Rick’s classic quote, “Revealing your feeling is the beginning of healing,” and tell others of our pain? Yes, yes, and YES!
But Beth Moore said something I’ll never forget: “Our healing isn’t the goal; the Healer is.” She mentions the woman at the well (John 4)—after one encounter with Jesus, her dignity was restored and shame removed. And to think, she didn’t even set out to get healed that day. It was her time spent with Jesus that put her on the road to wholeness.
Sweet friend, no matter how deep your pain, God’s compassion is deeper. Run to him, for he brings healing to the places where you’d never think it could be found.
