Rock climbers need a lot of gear in order to avoid falling hundreds of feet. They need to stay connected to the rope at all times. They stay connected by using a tool called the carabiner. A Christian’s carabiner is ministry. Ministry keeps you connected with God and the church. Though it can be difficult at first to find a ministry, Saddleback is going to connect you with the right ministry. On February 16 and 17, Saddleback Church will host a Ministry Expo at each campus to help you find a ministry to join.
Over one hundred different ministries will be featured. Julie Sathoff, the ministry coordinator at Saddleback Church who is organizing this event, described the Ministry Expo, saying, “Getting involved in a ministry is the baby step to connecting with your calling, God, and His community.” Some of the on-campus ministries like Guest Services, Local Peace Outreach, Marketing, PICS (Photographers In Christs’s Service), and the Food Pantry will be there. Whether you want to be a greeter or get out into the community and serve, there will be a ministry that will connect you with your calling.
Julie is thrilled about this event. She has a “God-sized expectation” for this event and that everyone will be “empowered and mobilized and moving; not just listening, but moving into action.” It does not matter if you are young or old, says Julie, anybody can get involved with a ministry.
All of Saddleback’s campuses will have a Ministry Expo on sight, which will start right after each service. The expo will take place during week five of the “Live Your Calling” series, when Pastor Rick will talk about the importance of ministry.
Just as a rock climber needs a carabiner to stay connected to the rope, we as Christians need to stay connected through ministry.
