Eva Lopez was full of hope when she married her husband at 20 years old. But unrealistic expectations and difficult circumstances led the couple to divorce. Eva found herself a single mother struggling to make it through college. Eva prayed a quiet prayer: “God, if I never get married again, I am going to do missions work. But if I do get married, it would be great to find someone to do missions with me.” Little did she know, God would answer her prayer in the most incredible way.
Eva, a new Christian, was excited to share her faith with others. She invited a friend, Kevin, to attend Saddleback with her. Just a few months after attending his first service, Kevin began a relationship with Christ. As Eva and Kevin grew in their faith, they grew closer to each other and began dating
When the tsunami hit Japan in 2011, Eva knew she wanted to help. To her surprise, Kevin was on the same page. They joined a PEACE Relief Team and went to Tokyo that summer. As they served side by side, Eva and Kevin began to see each other differently.
They had discussed marriage prior to the trip, but when they returned home, they realized that serving together overseas had created an unbreakable bond between them. They became engaged and were married in December of that year.
Kevin and Eva look forward to returning to Japan again someday. They are grateful for their unforgettable PEACE trip to Japan, for as they spread God’s love to others, they defined their love there as well.
