David Vera, Ron Wilbur, Caitlyn, Connor and Regina Vera
Meet David and Regina Vera, small group hosts serving at the Small Group Life tables every Saturday night at Lake Forest.
It started when they signed up to help out with Daniel Plan curriculum distribution. They were so friendly and helpful that we asked if they would be willing to continue as staff at the Small Group Life tables. They help serve communion as a family, but they had been also looking for other ways to serve together so this opportunity just seemed to fit.
David and Regina enjoy the variety of serving on the patio. “We’re new to this so there’s always something new and we’re learning all the time,” said Regina. “Like pointing people into different aspects of small group life,” adds David. “You meet all kinds of people and it’s great that we have all kinds of groups for them.”
They had not been in a small group before deciding to host a little over three years ago. “We have four kids and rather than descending on someone else’s house we decided to open our home up to others,” said David with a chuckle. Regina explained how it started, “We made a pact to just try it, to give it a test run. And then we watched as all of us in our group started growing. We’ve never looked back.”
The Vera’s shared that their willingness to serve comes from a sincere desire to give back to their church. We asked them, now that they’ve been acting as table staff at the small group life tables, what does it take to serve there? “It’s easy,” says David, “all you need is a willingness to serve, to be open to other people and be interested in helping them.” Regina points out, “What we hope people see is that Saddleback Church cares for them. We’re here to help them personally whether they’re a host or co-host with a question, someone interested in starting a group, someone wanting to join a group, or a visitor who wants to know more about small groups.”
Thanks, David and Regina and Chelsea and David, Jr and Connor and Caitlyn. Your family is making a difference!
