Quarterly Global PEACE Gathering
08/24/2016 .“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf; Be reconciled to God.” — 2 Corinthians 5:20
One of our five Daring Faith Goals is to help take the Good News to the last 3,000 unreached tribes—the “Final Frontier Project” of our global PEACE Plan.
In an effort to mobilize our members for global PEACE, the Lake Forest campus hosted our quarterly global PEACE gathering, PEACE Practical. Held on July 31, the interactive training offered insight on how to use SHAPE to equip local churches globally to reach their communities for Christ.
Over 300 people attended the event to learn about global PEACE opportunities including Trip Leader Training, Initiative Skills Training, and cultural training for our geographic communities.
A free community dinner was provided, following a time of worship, vision-casting, and breakout sessions for members to connect with global PEACE. Among the 15 initiatives were orphan care, clean water, ESL, poverty, and disaster relief. Within the nine geographies were Rwanda, Asia, Mexico City, and Rio. During the breakout sessions, members were challenged with tangible ways to get involved with global PEACE on a deeper level.
“The response was overwhelmingly positive,” says Lauren Keck, PEACE Team Associate. “Members were excited to get plugged into global PEACE opportunities, and nearly 60 people attended the First Steps Breakout, all of whom were just getting started in their PEACE journey.”
While many were learning the foundations of PEACE, others were gaining information on how to join a PEACE trip. As the heartbeat of missions at Saddleback, PEACE trips are life-changing opportunities to share the love of Jesus in another culture. Every month, Saddleback sends out PEACE teams, with trips ranging from one day to two weeks. Trips focus on working with local churches, and serving through sustainable, reproducible projects through The PEACE Plan. This strategy provides guidance on how we serve others around the world—through local churches bringing lasting change to their communities.
“The PEACE Plan is love in action,” says Pastor Rick, “—locally, globally, and personally. Saddleback is an all nation congregation, and the first church to go to every nation with The PEACE Plan. We’ve sent out 25,000 members to 197 nations, and our PEACE Center has fed 300,000 families. Saddleback is not the wealthiest church in the world, but we are the most generous.”
Out of YOUR generosity and sacrifice to Daring Faith, lives are changed, hope is shared, and the love of Christ is shown throughout the world. From joining a global PEACE trip to serving on a local outreach, it’s about coming together to equip and empower local churches around the world and facilitate relationships that reach Unengaged Unreached People Groups.
