Local PEACE Efforts
01/22/2017 .On January 25, Saddleback Singles partnered with Local PEACE by serving at our offsite Food Pantry Donation Center. The evening event was a chance for our Singles Ministry to contribute to meeting our Daring Faith “A” goal of assisting 250,000 people in need.
Nearly 30 singles met at Saddleback’s Food Distribution Center in Foothill Ranch to sort through and package food in preparation for delivery to our five Food Pantries. Each month, Saddleback Singles contributes to Local PEACE initiatives in an effort to balance the five purposes and connect with other Saddleback ministries. This act of serving also provides a stepping-stone toward community outreach and involvement.
According to Saddleback Singles Coordinator, Amanda Sinks, a highlight of the event was the range of participants, spanning from first time visitors to Singles Small Group Hosts serving together with their small group.
“Singles who had never connected or served in a ministry were introduced to the Food Distribution Center and our Food Pantries,” she says. “We even had two new singles—who had never been to anything at Saddleback—really enjoy the night, and now plan to get involved and attend our Saturday worship service.”
Our Food Pantries have given out millions of pounds of food through this God-honoring initiative. Since we launched Daring Faith in May 2015, we’ve expanded PEACE Centers in Irvine South and San Clemente. These facilities––along with those in Lake Forest, Corona, Laguna Woods, and Rancho Capistrano––serve over 2,500 people each month.
After the success of the recent Singles Serve Night, the ministry plans to continue assisting at the Food Distribution Center, and encourage others to get involved in this life-giving program.
