Release of 360 Video Experience

Each month, several of Saddleback’s teams—including Production, Video, IT, and Web—are working behind the scenes to help meet our Daring Faith “I” goal. Just in time for Easter, they united their efforts for the development and release of the Journey with Jesus app and the 360 Video Experience.

“This was one of the most spiritual moments of my life,” says Pastor Rick “I wept to think of what Jesus went through— from the thorns, nails, cross, death, and resurrection. It really moved me.”

Located on the hillside of our Rancho Capistrano campus, the Journey with Jesus trail is an interactive art installation featuring 15 mosaics that visually follow the path Jesus took to the cross. Starting with the anointing of Jesus and moving all the way to his resurrection, each art piece displays the visual story of Christ’s journey. The trail can be physically explored alone or as part of a guided tour.

To share the experience across the world, our tech teams developed two other unique ways to enjoy the Journey with Jesus trail: ­By downloading the app or watching the video online. With the app, users can listen to Pastor Rick narrate all 15 stations of the cross. The app also includes photographs of the art installations to accompany each audio segment.

To “walk” the trail from anywhere in the world, the 360 Experience presents each art installation in video form, including narration by Pastor Rick. Video snippets range from 3 to 12 minutes, and are a powerful way to learn about these final moments of Jesus' life.

In the short time the digital resources have been available, 600 people have electronically engaged in the trail, “tuning in” as far as from China and Australia. This is in addition to the 2,500 people who physically visited the site at Rancho Capistrano.

According to Spiritual Maturity Pastor Rob Jacobs, “The Journey with Jesus experience puts you in a posture that directs the focus back to the cross. It can really help reset your heart as a reminder of what happened during the last 24 hours of Jesus’ life.”
