Small Group Study Foundations of Leadership

As part of our Daring Faith campaign, we are training our members to be global leaders in the church and ministry, in business and the community, and in the arts and media. To help meet that goal, our church has developed training materials and courses to equip members for ministry.

This month, our Spiritual Maturity team released Leading Like Jesus, a brand new small group study designed for every member of our church. Considered the top funnel for leadership, this tool is a great way to reach the 25% of our members with leadership training. What makes this study truly unique is that it’s designed for everyone, as opposed to catering to people serving in specific ministries or on individual teams.

 “Everybody is a leader in some way, shape, or form,” says Rob Jacobs, Pastor of Spiritual Maturity, “—because what leadership boils down to is influence. The way you live has influence on everybody you meet in life, so you arealready a leader whether you realize it or not. The question is, are you going to be an intentional leader or an unintentional one? How are you going to use the influence that you already have?”

Digging deep into that very topic is this first study in a series of five, called Foundations of Leadership. While Leading Like Jesus introduces what it means to be a leader, the next four studies focus on how your heart, soul, mind, and strength impact your leadership. The next study, The Heart of Leadership is scheduled for release in December 2017.

Leading Like Jesus covers the principles and skills of leadership that Jesus modeled, and how we can overcome temptations of leadership. By navigating what it means to be a leader, the study offers essential lessons on how to best use the influence that God gave us.

“Small group studies like Leading Like Jesus provide a way for every member to learn about leadership,” says Pastor Rob. “This is a scalable way to reach all of our members through a study that can be viewed at home or even with people in our jobs.”

As Pastor Rob explains, “That Scripture is true in every single area of our lives. Everything rises or falls on leadership.”
