Our community is currently facing very difficult financial circumstances, and many are unable to provide for the needs of their families. Saddleback Church desires to help these families in our own community, so we established the Saddleback Church Food Pantry in the spring of 2009.
The response from the members of Saddleback Church was overwhelming, and the initial food drive brought in over 50,000 pounds of food. Volunteers stepped up to help assemble shelves, organize the Pantry, and begin to distribute the food. However, as word went out to the community that food was available for families needing assistance, the Pantry’s food supply dwindled.
The Food Pantry has been able to help many hundreds of families since it opened last spring. The number of families to which Saddleback is providing food is growing as other food banks in the area have had to turn away families for lack of food supply. In August, we provided food to 231 families, in September, 247 families, in October, 314 families, and November, 341 families! As you can see, the need is rising quickly.
The Church has placed collection barrels all around the campus, and church members continue to bring in donations of food. Unfortunately, it is not enough to cover the growing need of those who are having difficulty affording food. Please help us serve our community by bringing a food item with you each time you come to church and drop it in a blue barrel. Thank you!
Our Saddleback Church Food Pantry, has already helped hundreds of families in our community. But we can’t continue to do it without you! If you’re interested in donating, you can shop, and then drop the items off in the blue barrels on the weekend.
