Equipping Others for Spiritual Growth
02/08/2019 .“We serve as Class 201 teachers,” Nelson says. “We’ve enjoyed getting to know our church family, connecting with new people, and equipping them through the spiritual growth principles taught in the class. When we first accepted Christ 25 years ago, there were no opportunities for us to learn the basic teachings of God's Word or how to live daily as a Christian.”
Nelson, a lab technician, and Gladys, a full-time mom for the couple’s three daughters, originally came from Bogotá, Colombia. But after moving to California, they found Saddleback Church and became members in 2004. Since then, they’ve gotten involved as volunteers at Saddleback en Español.
“We didn’t have any instructions on how to daily follow Jesus at first,” Nelson says. “Starting your Christian life with a solid foundation of what and why you believe will save you from many mistakes, troubles, and headaches.”
Nelson and Gladys have challenge for everyone who attends Saddleback.: “Take advantage of these classes,” they say. “They are tools to help you develop better habits. Every Christian needs a good foundation, and this is an excellent way to know Jesus better and grow daily.”
“Being a part of the Saddleback en Español family has helped us to be more grateful to God,” Gladys says. “We have learned that it doesn't matter where you come from; we are family, and we are all working toward the same goal — fulfilling the Lord’s purposes in our lives. It has been an amazing journey of spiritual growth for us. And we are thankful to God for the privilege of being able to serve his church.”
“Serving as a couple has been a huge blessing for us,” Nelson says. “It has helped us to surrender our lives to Jesus and to depend on him in all things, even the small stuff.”
