The Fiery Furnace

Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s Bible story called The Fiery Furnace with your child after they’ve watched this week’s Church at Home elementary video. Remember I am faithful when I put God first.

1. What was your favorite part of the video we just watched?
2. What did Daniel’s friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refuse to bow down to?
   A golden statue. Bowing down is a way people worship things – it means you think that thing is the most important. But God is the only one they would worship because they knew he is more important than a statue.
3. Why weren’t Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego afraid to stand up to the king – even though their punishment would be a fiery furnace?
   They weren’t afraid because they loved God and they knew God loved them. They knew by putting God first, they were obeying God, and that mattered more to them than death. That’s next level faithfulness!
4. How can you be faithful and put God first in a hard or tough situation?
   Just like God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace, God is with you in your hard times, too. Put God first by trusting him, even if other people don’t. You can learn to trust God more when you talk to him about your problems or read about the ways he’s helped people in the Bible with their problems.
5. What is your favorite thing to do every day?
   The things we put the most time and energy into are the things that are most important to us. God can be a part of everything you do; it doesn’t just have to be when you read your Bible. He is with you wherever you go!
6. What is one way you can choose to be faithful and put God first today?
   Maybe you can put God first by trusting him when things are hard, talking to him throughout the day, thinking about good choices he would make, or talking to other people about him. You might even choose to start reading your Bible right when you wake up every morning or join church every week or pick a different show to watch – whatever you do, have fun getting to know God and be faithful to put him first.
