The Coronavirus—a flu-like respiratory infection—is reported to have infected over 60 thousand people in 28 countries. The virus that broke out in China has spread globally and is on the brink of becoming a pandemic. Coronavirus has led to mass quarantines, the shut down of public transportation and programs, and an overall feeling of isolation and fear in society.

In the wake of the outbreak, surgical masks have become key tools for preventing the spread of disease and ensuring the safety of the population. Pastor Stephen of Saddleback Hong Kong says, “The mask is the most critical item that is needed by all of the people at this time.” Surgical masks are currently in global shortage due to the outbreak, and obtaining a large amount of them is not feasible by those within Hong Kong.

 To meet this need, Saddleback is securing 1 million masks and sending them to our Hong Kong campus. Our Hong Kong campus will then provide them to the sick in their congregation as well as to 40 Purpose Driven churches in the surrounding area. In these times of fear and uncertainty for those in Hong Kong, our heart is that the provision of this practical need will be a tangible way the body of Christ can come alongside our brothers and sisters facing the threat of illness.
