Supporting Kentucky Pastors in the Wake of Midwest Storms

    12/17/2021

A string of tornadoes has left a path of destruction across six Midwest states, including Kentucky, where at least 70 have died in what was the most devastating tornado event in the state’s history. Many churches and their pastors in these hard-hit areas will be ministering to their communities even as they wrestle with their own loss. Many have lost their homes, their church buildings, and some have even lost loved ones.

At Saddleback Church, we’ve committed to using our Relief offerings for strategic needs that otherwise would go unnoticed. As 2 Corinthians 9:12 says, two things result from those gifts: People in need are helped, and the recipients give thanks to God!

Saddleback Church is committed to helping the local pastors on the ground as communities work to recover from their losses. These pastors of churches in the affected areas are serving their congregations in the midst of this devastation, providing rooted leadership and vital hope and support to hurting families. Knowing that church budgets will be stretched and focused on rebuilding, Saddleback is coming alongside to assist these pastors with their salaries through this season of recovery and rebuilding – and you can help! “As our church works with congregations located in the region of the disaster, we help those congregations be God’s Church to their neighbors. Though church buildings may be damaged or even completely destroyed, our help shows that the Church isn’t a place to go to; it’s a family to belong to – the people, not the steeple.” – Pastor Rick Warren

Lord, as we approach Christmas we are reminded that you are Emmanuel, God with us. Thank you that you are near to all those who are hurting and have lost so much in the Midwest. Would this be a time when your church can shine brighter because we stand together. Would the people of those hurting communities see you in the ways their neighbors and the Church comes alongside to care for their needs. Amen
