Rick Warren
September 5-6, 2015

"Those who forget God have no hope." See Job 8:11-13 (LB)

  1. Wishful hope
  2. Expectant hope
  3. Certain hope (biblical)

"The certain hope of being saved is a strong and trustworthy anchor
 for our souls"
                                                Hebrews 6:19a (LB)

REAL HOPE IS BASED ON God's Word NOT my wishes.

"God made a promise to Abraham . . . and Abraham waited patiently for it to happen, so he received what God promised. People always use the name of someone greater than themselves when they make an oath . . . God wanted to prove that his promise was true to those who'd get what he promised, and he wanted them to understand that his purposes never change, so God made an oath.
"Now there are two things that are unchangeable: God cannot lie when he makes a promise, and he cannot lie when he makes an oath. These things encourage us . . . They give us strength to hold on to the HOPE we have been given. We have THIS HOPE as an anchor for our souls. It is sure and it is strong!"
 Hebrews 6:13-19

"Jesus taught his followers that they should always pray and never lose hope."
            Luke 18:1 (NCV)

ACTION PLAN: List 3 ways that your anchor in Christ has helped you through a personal storm.

From The Lord's Prayer - Mathew 6:9-13

  1. My loving Father will never abandon me.

    "Our Father in heaven . . ."
  2. God's power is greater than any problem.

    "Hallowed be your name!"

"In your name I will hope, for your name is good."
     Psalm 52:9 (NIV)
  3. God fits everything into His plan
    "Your kingdom come"
  4. God has a greater purpose for my life
"Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven"
  5. God has promised to meet all my needs
"Give us this day our daily bread"
  6. Jesus died to pay for all I've done wrong
"And forgive us our sins . . ."
  7. God will settle the score someday
"As we forgive those who have sinned against us"
  8. God has promised to help me
"And lead us not into temptation"
  9. Jesus in me is greater than any other power
    "But deliver us from evil"
  10. This is not the end of the story.

"For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever!"

ACTION PLAN:  Which of the above reasons for hope is closest to your heart?  Write it down on a 3x5 card and put it somewhere where you will see it daily.
