      Every Body Matters

      Saddleback Church | January 10, 2016

There are many battles you may face this year. Some may be hard-fought, stressful, and intense; others may be small and easy to win. Either way, you will have to choose which battles you are going to fight. Nothing is handed to you for free with the exception of salvation. If you want to come out on top in 2016, you’re going to have to work for it. Pastor Rick shares his wisdom on how to discern which battles matter in your life and how to tackle them. You will learn about the three major battles you’ll face and the secret weapons you have to help you win.

      Message Action Plan

      Message Action Plan

      Dear Saddleback Family,

Use the MessageActionPlan below to help put the things you learned this weekend into practice. If you missed last weekend's message, click here to watch it online.

      Every Body Matters
      January 9-10, 2016
      Gary Thomas

      1. Body care is an aspect of Christian DISCIPLESHIP and WORSHIP

"With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let's make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without. Let's make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God." 2 Corinthians 7:1 (MSG)

      2. Difference between God's Approach and Hollywood's Approach

God's approach is about ABUNDANT life

Hollywood's approach is about an ARTIFICIAL shape

This is where the SPIRITUAL truth of Jesus Christ helps us overcome the PHYSICAL challenge of healthy living

Action Plan: Write 2 Corinthians 7:1 on a 3x5 card and put it someplace that you will see each morning. Use it as a reminder that the spiritual truth of Jesus helps us overcome the physical challenge of healthy living.

      3. An Entirely New Motivation

We treat our bodies as INSTRUMENTS instead of ORNAMENTS

"Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God — which
        is your spiritual worship."
        Romans 12:1 (NIV)

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body." 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)

My body doesn't BELONG to me

Action Plan: Knowing that our bodies are instruments, not ornaments, make the choice to start healthy living through the Daniel Plan. Visit danielplan.com and see how you can get started. Ask a friend to do this alongside you.
      4. The SPIRITUAL Challenge

"God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble" Proverbs 3:34; James 4:6; 1 Peter 5:5

Body care requires IMMEDIATE sacrifice for DELAYED rewards

Indulgence has immediate BENEFITS and DELAYED consequences

        Jesus, HELP ME

Action Plan: In your quiet time this week, talk with God about places in your life that you can show more humility. As you think of these things, ask Jesus for help in these areas. Be specific.
      5. Caring for your BODY is caring for your MISSION

"I'm running hard for the finish line. I'm giving it everything I've got. No sloppy living for me! I'm staying alert and in top condition. I'm not going to get caught napping . . ." 1 Corinthians 9:26-27 (MSG)
