    The Word Of Trust

    Saddleback Church | September 20, 2015

Who do you cry out to when things are going badly? As he was about to die on the cross, Jesus shouted out, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” He was so confident in his Father that he raised his voice, despite the agonizing pain he was suffering on the cross. In that moment, Jesus became the example of not only how to live, but how to die. God can be fully trusted—his hands are big enough to bless you, and he will always hold on to you! In the final message of The Seven Greatest Words of Love series, Pastor Rick Warren shares four truths to remember about God in your darkest hour.

    Message Action Plan

    Dear Saddleback Family,

Use the Message Action Plan below to help put the things you learned this weekend into practice. If you missed last weekend's message, click here to watch it online.

THE SEVEN GREATEST WORDS OF LOVE - PART 7 (19-20 September 2015)

"By this time it was noon, but darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock.  The light from the sun was gone.  And suddenly, the thick veil hanging in the Temple was torn apart.  Then Jesus shouted 'FATHER, I ENTRUST MY SPIRIT INTO YOUR HANDS!'  And with those words he breathed his last breath.  When the captain of the Roman soldiers handling the executions saw what had happened, he praised God and said, 'Surely this man was innocent!' " Luke 23:44-47(NLT)

JESUS WAS A MODEL OF HOW TO DIE WELL

    1. He was at peace that it was his time
    2. He wasn't afraid to die
    3. He died with no unresolved relationships
    4. He wasn't angry or bitter
    5. He knew where he was going
    6. He trusted God with his future

Action Plan: Select the item above that represents the greatest barrier you feel is keeping you from having peace over death.  Journal ways God can help you to have peace over it.

4 TRUTHS TO REMEMBER IN YOUR DARKEST HOUR

    1. I have a Father in heaven who loves me

"As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who honor Him…"  Psalm 103:13 (NIV)

    2. My Father can be trusted

"For the word of the Lord holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust."  Psalm 33:4 (NLT)

    3. My Father is taking care of things I can't see

"When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him.  But he knows the way that I take; and when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold." Job 23:9-10 (NIV)

    4. My Father can handle anything I put in His hands

"I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand."  John 10:28-29 (NIV)

Action Plan: Memorize the phrase "Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands".  Say it to God throughout your day, especially when things get difficult.

    GOD'S HAND ARE…

    1. Big enough to bless me

"You both precede and follow me.  You place your hand of blessing on my head."  Psalm 139:5 (NLT)

    2. Strong enough to keep me eternally secure

"I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish…My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand."  John 10:28-29 (NIV)

    3. Scarred so he can't forget me

"Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne?  Though she may forget, I will not forget you!  I have engraved you on the palms of my hands!"  Isaiah 49:15-16 (NIV)

Action Plan: Change a personal commonly used password and add the phrase "hishands" into it.  Every time you enter that password, reflect on whose hands surround you.
