How to Experience a Personal Reformation

Tom Holladay and Buddy Owens | September 17, 2017

Before Martin Luther started the Reformation in the church 500 years ago, he experienced a personal reformation that changed the world. In today’s fast-paced culture, it’s tough to imagine leaving that sort of imprint on history. But you can! In this message at Saddleback Church, Pastor Tom Holladay and Pastor Buddy Owens share how you can experience renewal in your own life through five keys to a personal reformation. You’ll learn how you were saved by God’s grace, and why the Bible still remains the living, active standard of truth. Discover how to walk by faith, find hope in Christ, and live for God’s glory. Don’t miss this powerful message on how to find fullness in life.

    Message Action Plan

    Message Action Plan

“I have come in order that you might have life—life in all its fullness.”  John 10:10 (TEV)

Restore to me the joy of your salvation.  Psalm 51:12a (NLT)

     STAND ON GRACE ALONE

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.             Ephesians 2:8 (NLT)

I wrote to encourage you and to tell you that this is the true grace of God. Stand strong in that grace.   1 Peter 5:12 (NCV)

     RELY ON SCRIPTURE ALONE

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.   2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)

How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.  Psalm 119:9 (NIV)

For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

Action Plan: Try starting each day by reading a chapter from Psalms and one or two individual proverbs. See how you approach your day differently by starting with your “plumb line” true.

    WALK BY FAITH ALONE

This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight. This is accomplished from start to finish by faith. As the Scriptures say, “It is through faith that a righteous person has life.”    Romans 1:17 (NLT)

…for we walk by faith, not by sight… 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NASB)

Action Plan: Spend this week reading Hebrews 11. Make a list for yourself of each person mentioned and the faith that there displayed. Look for any application that may appear for your own life out of this chapter.

    HOPE IN CHRIST ALONE

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead… 1 Peter 1:3 (NIV)

Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.   Psalm 33:22 (NLT)

But all these things that I once thought very worthwhile—now I’ve thrown them all away so that I can put my trust and hope in Christ alone.   Philippians 3:7 (TLB)

Action Plan: Find a version of the song “Give Me Jesus” that you like and listen to it throughout the week. Turn the song into a prayer as you put your hope in Jesus alone.

    LIVE FOR GOD’S GLORY ALONE

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

God does not live in temples built by hands. Acts 17:24 (NIV)

Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.   1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)

Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.  2 Corinthians 3:17-18 (NIV)
