Cook’s Corner Response
08/25/2023Community Prayer Gathering
Due to the tragic shooting at Cook's Corner in Orange County we hosted a Community Prayer Gathering Friday, August 25 at 7:00 PM (PDT) at the Lake Forest campus Worship Center.
We prayed for all of the families, first responders, and individuals who have been impacted.
We'll also gather across our campuses this weekend for our normal services as we worship God and comfort each other during this difficult situation.
If you are personally affected by the tragedy, our pastoral care team is here for you. Call 949.609.8000 to speak with the minister of the day.
We are all grieving the tragic shooting that took place in our community on Wednesday night. Here's some specific things to pray for and some Bible verses to pray over those affected:
Pray First
Prayer isn't the only thing we do, but it is the first thing we do. Here's some specific things to pray for and Bible verses to pray over them.
Pray For
The family members who lost loved ones in this tragedy that they would be able to grieve with hope and comfort one another.
Romans 15:13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Pray For
Courage, strength, love and joy for the first responders, business owners and everyone else involved in responding to this tragedy.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. NIV
Pray For
Churches in Orange County as they share light and hope to the world and that they would be unified in seeking peace and leading with wisdom.
Matthew 5:16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. NIV

This support group is a place for first responders and first responders only. We share a common bond and experience things in our work that are unique to our profession. The things we see affect every person differently. The hours we work, the lack of sleep, and the different types of people we encounter all have effects on our well-being and if not addressed properly can come out in a variety of ways. Every single person has a different story and a different way this affects them, but we all get it. This is a place to share, listen, learn, and have a space to transform our behavior. It's not impossible alone, but it's not the best way to get better. It's a fact that more first responders die from suicide each year than on duty. This is a place not only to get the help you need, but we will teach you how to take this hurt and use it to help others.
This support group meets in-person the first Tuesday of every month at the Saddleback Lake Forest campus and meets online the third Tuesday of every month.
