Meet the Makers — You were made by the Creator in His image. You might say you were born to create! Meet the Makers allows you to meet and learn from Saddleback Church artists in an informal setting. Every week a new maker will welcome you, demonstrating their talent and inviting you to take part in an artistic experience. Join us every Saturday from 1:00-4:00 at the Art Center (Tent 1). No registration is necessary. Drop in to visit at anytime during Open Create Hours.
Here's the schedule of artists presenting with Meet the Makers
- August 17th Eric Jones - Still Life Impressionism
- August 24th Dan Long - Watercolor (observation only)
- August 31st Debra Unjian/Leilani Smith - Beadwork and Metal Fabrication Basics
- September 7th Sandhya Artique - Abstract Drawing, #makeamessthencleanitup
- September 14th Kathleen Chen - Ceramics, Handbuilding
- September 21 Mark Dickinson - Oil Painting
- September 28th Dan Long - Watercolor (observation only)
Open Create runs simultaneously to Meet the Makers and is a time and space for makers of all kinds to come together in a shared conversation, collaboration, and individual creative projects. An Arts Center Host will be present to show you the facility and help you get settled. It is an undirected time meant for you to use to create in freedom. We believe that when you make space to imagine and create, that the Spirit works in you and can communicate life-changing messages to your community.

How experienced do you have to be?
Open Create is a great way for artists of all levels to work together, teach each other, and learn from one another in an informal environment. You may come and experiment with something you have never tried before or work on a project you’ve been developing for years.
Is this a workshop or a Class?
This is not a workshop or class. Workshops will be held outside of Open Create to teach technical skills in the arts. Subscribe to our email list to be aware of these opportunities.
Costs
The basic use of this space and these materials is free and for your usage, made possible by the funds donated to our ministry through Saddleback. We do charge for canvases, clay, and larger amounts of material. We accept card and cash. Please talk to the Arts Center Host in these cases.
Do you provide supplies?
Here is what we have at the Arts Center (if you have a specific project in mind, you may want to bring your personal materials and supplies.)
- Digital Design and Editing: iMac Computers with the Adobe Suite installed. Pen tablets. Large format printer. Cricut cutter
- Photography: Photo backdrop for photographers in white, grey and black and photo lights.
- Drawing, painting, and Collage. This includes, paper of all sizes, canvas, easels, graphite, charcoal, oil paint, acrylic paint, spray paint, easels, paintbrushes, collage material, adhesives, cutting tools.
- Ceramics (ON SATURDAYS ONLY): 3 throwing wheels, lo slab roller, basic shaping tools, clay for purchase, low-fire to mid-fire Cress kilns. Raku firing supplies.
- Construction: Basic hand tools and hardware. Power tools such as drills, saws, air compressor, router, sanders.
- Sound Studio in Development: for podcasting, music recording, vlogging.
What should I bring?
If you have any projects you are the middle of or thinking of starting up, bring those materials with you. Most artists are more productive when they come with an idea or a project they want to work on, rather than finding something to do when they get here. We have lockers available if you fill out an application and there is availability.
We're excited to host you at the Arts Center! We pray it helps you use your creative gifts to worship our Creator or make something that can share the love of Christ with the community.
