Talk It Over
Jesus Calls Peter
Hey parents! Use these questions as a guide to talk over this week’s lesson, Jesus Calls Peter, with your child after they’ve watched the video service!
- What was your favorite part of the video we just watched? Do you have any questions about what you saw?
- What was Simon’s job before he met Jesus? He was a fisherman.
- What was the new name Jesus gave Simon? Peter!
- What did Jesus tell Peter to do? Follow him, then go where it is deeper and let down his net.
- Jesus gave Peter a new purpose. What was it? He said Peter would be a “fisher of men” which meant he would help other people follow Jesus.
- What are some things Jesus wants you to do? Tell other people about him, get to know him better, be a good friend and helper, take care of God’s creation, make good choices that show people I love Jesus, and pray for others, etc. These are all part of your purpose!
- Take time to pray with your child. You might pray something like this: Dear God, help me to remember that you made me for a purpose. You have special things for me to do to show you that I love you. Help me to remember those things and do them. Amen
Hey parents! We have something just for you to enjoy this week’s Bible story for yourself. Read over this devotion sometime this week as a way for you to reflect on the Bible story your child saw from Church at Home. We love you!
DownloadThis week, your child is learning that a purpose is what something was made to do. Peter found his purpose when he followed Jesus, and Jesus has a special purpose for them, too. This craft reminds the kids that Peter was a fisherman, and God gave him a new purpose.
DownloadIn this activity, you will use household items to pose the question “What’s the purpose of ____?” to your child. Have fun thinking about what each item was made to do! This will reinforce the definition of the word purpose and help your child see they were made to do something for God.
DownloadEach week we have a new coloring page and activity sheet for your child to remember the Bible story for the week.
