DESTINY: WHERE AM I GOING?
The Great Questions of Life - Part 3
Tom Holladay
October 10-11, 2015
"No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven." John 3:13 (NLT)
What Jesus taught about your destiny:
- YOU WILL LIVE FOREVER
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NIV)
"Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth-those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation." John 5:28-29 (NKJV) - HEAVEN IS MORE REAL THAN NOW
"And while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, 'Do you have anything here to eat?' They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he took it and ate it in their presence." Luke 24:41-43 (NIV)
"For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies." 1 Corinthians 15:53 (NLT)
The creation looks forward to the day when it will join God's children in glorious freedom from death and decay." Romans 8:21 (NLT)
ACTION PLAN: Make a commitment to prepare your body for heaven by exercising your spiritual body (join a small group, attend church, daily devotionals, etc) and your intellectual body (utilizing your spiritual gifts, stretch your talents and skills, learn new skills, etc). - HE WANTS TO BE WITH YOU IN HEAVEN
"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going." John 14:1-4 (NLT)
ACTION PLAN: Write down all your hurts, hang-ups and habits and kneel and ask Jesus to take them from you. Repeat everyday; spiritual cleansing is a daily habit. - HE WANTS TO REWARD YOU IN HEAVEN
"Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal." Matthew 6:20 (NLT)
"And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first." Matthew 19:29-30 (NIV)
ACTION PLAN: Are you a good steward of the gifts God has given you? Do you spend your money, spiritual gifts, and time on people (and things) that bring others to Christ? Take a personal inventory and share it with a trusted friend.
The two things to do now:
- SETTLE YOUR DESTINY
". . . I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying." John 11:25 (NLT)
"Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life." John 12:25 (NIV)
"I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life." John 5:24 (NLT)
ACTION PLAN: If you have questions or doubts that are keeping you from accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior, reach out to a friend that is a believer or to a Pastor. Engage in a conversation about your concerns.
- SET YOUR MIND ON YOUR DESTINY
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." Colossians 3:1-2 (NIV)
ACTION PLAN: Make an honest list of your priorities. Is Christ first on your list? If not, re-prioritize your life so that Christ is your top priority.
