    Relationship With Self: Overcoming Accusation

    Josh Howerton | July 25, 2021

How do you get past your past? Whether it’s the pain of a bad decision, recurring sin, or the struggle of a loved one, you can fall into the trap of accusing yourself and being stuck in guilt. In this message, guest speaker Josh Howerton looks to Revelation 12 for a biblical method for overcoming self-accusation.

    Message Action Plan

Now, war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world – he was thrown down to earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, "Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Revelation 12:7-11

    1. THE BIBLE ISN'T AN OLD BOOK. IT'S A TIMELESS BOOK.

IT DOESN'T JUST TELL US WHAT HAPPENED. IT TELLS US WHAT ALWAYS HAPPENS.

ACTION PLAN: If there was a time when your commitment to spending time in God's Word was greater than it is today, ask God to renew your hunger to know him through his Word. Enrich your studying of the Bible through our new online e-course The Bible Experience. You will learn to dive beneath the surface and will receive tools and tips to study the Bible the way that pastors and preachers do.

    1. SATAN'S MAIN STRATEGY ISN'T TEMPTATION,

      BUT ACCUSATION.

Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God. Revelation 12:10
    2. ACCUSATION TAKES WHAT YOU DID AND CONVINCES YOU THAT'S WHO YOU ARE.

As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance.   Luke 17:12

ACTION PLAN: During your quiet time, think back on what you have believed about yourself. Have you believed the accusations of the enemy and defined yourself by an issue in your life? If so, read the first and second chapters of Ephesians and look for all of the truth that God's Word says about you. Begin to make your own list of who God says that you are.

    1. OVERCOME ACCUSATION BY TURNING YOUR BIOGRAPHY INTO A TESTIMONY.

And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…     Revelation 12:11

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father — Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.  1 John 2:1

ACTION PLAN: If you haven't written your testimony, sign-up for CLASS 401 where you will learn how to write your testimony of how Jesus has changed your life.
