    Counter-Culture Community

    Dr. Ed Stetzer | October 20, 2019

Everyone longs for community. As the world becomes lonelier and more polarized, a loving community — centered around Jesus — is the best antidote to all the rage. In this message, Ed Stetzer will give you four ways you can participate in loving, gospel-centered community that brings peace and hope to the world.

    Message Action Plan

SPECIAL EVENT FOR SADDLEBACK MEN: Come hear a conversation with LEGENDARY BASEBALL PLAYER ALBERT PUJOLS live at Saddleback Lake Forest on Monday, November 4. Click here for more info.

"But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language . . .  since you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self . . . Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all." Colossians 3:8-11 (NIV)

    Colossians 3:12-17

    1.   LOOK LIKE CHRIST.

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."     Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

"Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Jesus did."  1 John 2:6 (NLT)

Action Plan: Make it a point this week to "clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." Memorize this verse and recite it throughout the week.

    2. FOREBEAR AND FORGIVE.

"Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." Colossians 3:13 (NIV)

"Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."  Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

"So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)

Action Plan: Who do you need to forgive this week? Pray for that person and make the choice to forgive them in your heart.

    3. LEAD WITH LOVE.

"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."  Colossians 3:14 (NIV)

"This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you."  John 15:12 (ESV)

"Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works." Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)

    4. DWELL IN PEACE.

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."      Colossians 3:15 (NIV)

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment."  2 Timothy 1:7 (CSB)

Action Plan:  If you haven't already, start building the habit of a daily quiet time. Download Saddleback's free Engage Guide to help you get started.

    NEW OUTPUT REQUIRES NEW INPUT

"Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:16-17

"Christ is all, and in all."

Doable Discipleship: This week's episode of Doable Discipleship features a conversation with Bill and Kristi Gaultiere on Jesus' easy way to do hard things. New episodes release every Tuesday. To listen, click here.
