Life's Big Questions:
What happens when I die?
How can I know I will go to heaven when I die?
3 Responses to Jesus:
- Sit with apathy.
Apathy says "Look at that"
- Stand in opposition.
Opposition says "Prove it"
- Surrender by faith.
Surrender says "Save me"
There is a big difference between requiring proof and requesting provision.
How little do I need to know?
- My life is temporary.
- I deserve to die.
- I need a Savior.
Jesus is the solution.
ACTION PLAN: Picture the people who surrounded Jesus at his crucifixion. Reassess your own response to Jesus, comparing yourself to the three groups identified in Luke 23:32-42. If you find you are either sitting with apathy or standing in opposition to him, choose to surrender by faith. Pray like the criminal on the third cross; "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." To go deeper, walk through this reflection on the cross of Jesus.
"I surrender as much of myself as I can to as much of you as I understand."
ACTION PLAN: As we continue to pray for our "one life" throughout this year, prepare to share the good news of Jesus by writing down the basics of the gospel. Think about the statement "I surrender as much of myself as I can to as much of you as I understand," and remember where the emphasis should be – not on "I" statements of what you did, but on "he" statements of what Jesus did. Write it down and practice it for when you have an opportunity to tell your "one life".
ACTION PLAN: A beautiful expression of commitment to following Jesus is the act of baptism. This week we saw hundreds take this step. If you haven't been baptized yet, email baptism@saddleback.com to set your date.
