    Upward, Inward, Outward

    Daniel Fusco | October 7, 2018

In a world full of distractions, what’s the one thing we need to fix our eyes on? What the one thing that, if we get it right, can make everything else fall into place? In this message, Pastor Daniel Fusco walks us through Matthew 22, when Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was. You’ll learn the three components of his answer: to live upward by loving God, to live inward by loving yourself, and to live outward by loving others. When we have a commitment to the Greatest Commandment, we will start to live great lives.

"But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and      saying, 'Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?' Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.'" Matthew 22:34-40 (NKJV)

    1. The art of living is loving

Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself."   Matthew 22:37-39 (NKJV)

"And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." 1 Corinthians 13:13 (NKJV)
    1. Live upward by loving God

"You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."  Deuteronomy 6:5 (NKJV)

"We love Him because He first loved us."  1 John 4:19 (NKJV)

    2. Action Plan:  Choose a day this week and set an hourly alarm on your phone that day to remind you to check in with God. Be sure to thank God, ask God, and rest in God.

    3. Live inward by loving ourselves

". . . You shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:18 (NKJV)

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy." 2 Timothy 3:1-2 (NKJV)

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." Galatians 2:20 (NKJV)

Action Plan:  Think about Jesus calling you his friend.  Do a word study in the New Testament on the word "friend".  What does this tell you about Jesus calling you his friend?

    1. Live outward by loving others

". . . You shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:18 (NKJV)

"But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
