A Faith That Leads To Emotional Health: Part 1

      Rick Warren | May 3, 2020

If you want to be spiritually healthy, you need to be emotionally healthy. You can’t be spiritually mature if you’re emotionally immature. In this message, Pastor Rick Warren continues our series through the book of James by providing 10 commandments for emotional health during a crisis.

10 COMMANDMENTS FOR EMOTIONAL HEALTH DURING COVID-19

      1. SHOW GRACE TO MYSELF AND OTHERS

"God loves to give us more grace. He opposes the prideful, but he gives grace
       to the humble."                                                                  James 4:6

ACTION PLAN: When faced with a temptation to be impatient, angry, resentful, or jealous this week, ask God for help and His power to switch your thinking.  Further your humility by being willing to serve in small ways those around you.  Track your progress by journaling.

      1. START AND END EACH DAY REFUELING MY SOUL

". . . Humbly accept God's Word planted in your heart. It is able to save your
       souls."                                                                                   James 1:21

"Every morning thank God for his love and every evening thank him for his
       faithfulness."                                                                       Psalm 92:2

      1. SET AND STICK WITH A SIMPLE ROUTINE

"Carefully consider how you live. Live wisely, not foolishly. Make the most of
your time because these are difficult, evil days."                 Eph. 5:15-16

Action Plan: Create an outline of your day.  Be sure to set limits on how late you stay up.  Limit screen time.  Have meals around the same time each day.  If you have students in the house, make sure they start their work at the same time and take hourly breaks.

      1. STOP WATCHING SO MUCH NEWS

Jesus: "Your eye is the lamp of your body. If your vision is good, your whole
being will be full of light. But if you're focused on the bad, your life will be full of
       darkness!"                                                                Matt. 6:22-23

"Keep me from paying attention to what is worthless."      Psalm 119:37 (TEV)

      1. SCHEDULE A DAILY CONNECTION WITH PEOPLE I LOVE

"Speak encouraging words to each another. Build up hope so you'll all be
together in this, with no one left out, and no one left behind. I know you're
already doing this; just keep on doing it!"                               1 Thes. 5:11 (Mes)

ACTION PLAN: You can have unlimited one-on-one zoom calls with a free personalzoom account.  Schedule zoom/facetime, etc video calls with your family who are near and far.  Even if you haven't been doing so consistently in the past, use this season as a reason to start connecting.  Keep in touch with your small group as well.

ACTION PLAN:Take the following steps this week.

      1. Are you looking to slow down and rest? If so, check out our newest podcast "The Well" atSaddleback.com/thewell
