“We’re always confident … because we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:6-7
"Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)
HEBREWS 11: WALKING BY FAITH MEANS …
- BELIEVING WHEN I DON’T SEE IT
“Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)
- OBEYING GOD WHEN I DON’T UNDERSTAND IT
“It was by faith that Noah built an ark to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about something that had never happened before!” Hebrews 11:7 (NLT)
“It was faith that made Abraham obey when God called him to go out to a country God had promised to him. He left his own country without knowing where he was going.” Hebrews 11:8 (GNT)
“By FAITH, the people walked through the Red Sea like they were walking on dry ground. But when the Egyptians tried to do it they drowned!” Hebrews 11:29
ACTION PLAN: List the step(s) of obedience you know God has told you, but you just can’t make logical sense of it. List all the concerns that are blocking you. Give those over to God in prayer and ask Him to show you what to focus on.
- PERSISTING WHEN I DON’T FEEL LIKE IT!
“It was by faith that Moses left Egypt and was not afraid of the King's anger. He held to his purpose like a man who could see the invisible.” Hebrews 11:27 (JB)
“What is faith? It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen.” Hebrews 11:1a (NLT)
ACTION PLAN: What actions would be good for your relationship with God, your spouse, friends, job, or purpose, that you just don’t feel like doing? Come up with 3 possible things that could improve your relationships that you just don’t feel like doing. Strategize when and how to do them this week, then persist in doing them!
- ANNOUNCING IN ADVANCE BEFORE I HAVE IT
“It was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, Confidently spoke of God bringing his people out of Egypt. He was so sure of it that he commanded them to carry his bones with them when they left!” Hebrews 11:22 (NLT)
“God announced to Abraham: ‘I have made you a father of many nations!’ ... So Abraham believed the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were!” Romans 4:17 (NIV)
“God speaks of future events with as much certainty as thoughthey were already past!”
Romans 4:17b (TLB)
ACTION PLAN: Dream big for God. Write out all the accomplishments that you can only achieve with God’s power to fuel you. Share your ideas with a trusted friend.
