      Your Counter-Culture Mission

      Dr. Ed Stetzer | October 6, 2019

Today, as our culture becomes more and more divided, there are too many examples of those claiming to follow Jesus being critical, divisive, and irrational. In this message, Ed Stetzer will talk about how every Christian has a mission to be counter-cultural by sharing and showing the love of Jesus in a broken world.

      Message Action Plan

      Message Action Plan

      1.  THE CHRISTIAN LIFE IS A MISSION TRIP

"Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you."  (John 20:21, NIV)

OUR RESPONSE: HERE I AM LORD, SEND ME

Action Plan:  Make it a point to end your quiet times this week by saying, "Here I am Lord, send me."

      2.  CHRISTIANS LIVE AND LOOK DIFFERENTLY

"Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life."  (Philippians 2:14-15, NIV)

      OUR RESPONSE: WITHOUT GRUMBLING

"Do everything without grumbling or arguing."       (Philippians 2:14)

"God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect." (1 John 4:16-17, NLT)

OUR RESPONSE: STANDING OUT "So that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky."  (Philippians 2:14-15)

"Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you."   (Romans 12:2, The Message)

      OUR RESPONSE: HOLDING FIRM

"As you hold firmly to the word of life."   (Philippians 2:15)

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel." (Philippians 1:27, NIV)

Action Plan:  Choose one of these three responses to focus on this week. Go back and listen to that part of the message again and be intentional about growing in that area. You can watch again at saddleback.com/watch at about the 45 minute mark.

      3. LIVING AS AMBASSADORS

"So we are Christ's ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, 'Come back to God!'"  (2 Corinthians 5:20, NLT)

      4.  LOOKING LIKE IMPIOUS GALILEANS

"We love because he first loved us."     (1 John 4:19 ESV)

Action Plan:  Check out the new companion study for this series on Counter-Culture Living in an Age of Outrage. You can find the study at saddleback.com/watch under the small group tab. If you are not in a small group, go to saddleback.com/smallgroups and join or start one today.
