Habits That Help Me Hold On in Hard Times - Part 3

    Rick Warren | February 13, 2022

No matter what circumstances you’re facing, you can still move toward the goal God has led you to. But how can you do this? This week, in Part 3 of Habits That Help Me Hold On in Hard Times, Pastor Rick shares eight steps that are going to keep you moving forward toward your goal in hard times.

    Message Action Plan

    Message Action Plan

    1.   KEEP MY LIFE CLEAN!
          2 Timothy 2:21 (NLT)                          Job 17:9 (NIV)

    2.   KEEP MY EYES OPEN!
Psalm 105:4 (MSG)                             Proverbs 18:15 (MSG)

    3.   KEEP MY PURPOSE FIRM!
Isaiah 26:3 (TEV)                                Romans 6:13 (LB)                           Acts 13:36 (NIV)

God's 5 Purposes for My Life: Worship, Discipleship, Fellowship, Ministry, Mission

    4.   KEEP MY HEART GRATEFUL!
Ephesians 5:13 (LB)                             Colossians 4:2 (CEV)

    5.   KEEP MOVING TOWARD MY GOALS

We pray that you will be filled with God's mighty, glorious strength so that you can keep going no matter what happens.                     Colossians 1:11 (LB)

Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.       Colossians 3:17 (MSG)

THE STEPS FOR ACCOMPLISHING A GOD-GIVEN GOAL:

    1.   WRITE MY GOALS ON A PRAYeR LISTAND PRAY DAILY

Write down the vision! Make it clear on a tablet, so that anyone can read it quickly. Habakkuk 2:2 (GW)

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and then your plans will succeed.         Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

    2.  MAKEMY GOALS VISIBLE

Hold on to good planning and good sense. Don't let them out of your sight!             Proverbs 3:21

(Isaiah) The Lord said to me, "Take a large scroll and write on it in large letters!"     Isaiah 8:1 (TEV)

ACTION PLAN: Write down your two goals on a large sheet of paper. Set aside some time each morning, ten minutes for example, to pray about the steps you need to do to accomplish these goals. Hang it up somewhere in your home where you can see it multiple times per day to remind yourself of your commitment. Pray about it every time you see the poster.

    3.   ASK GOD TO SHOW ME THE steps I NEED TO TAKe

Show me the path where I should walk, O Lord; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me.             Psalm 25:4-5 (NLT)

The steps of good people are directed by the Lord. He delights in each step they take. Psalm 37:23 (LB)

    4.   Identify Barriers Why don't I have this already?

A sensible man watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them. The fool never looks ahead and suffers the consequences.            Proverbs 27:12 (LB)

The wise man looks ahead. The fool attempts to fool himself and won't face the facts.  Proverbs 14:8 (LB)

ACTION PLAN: Go for a walk to spend time with God away from normal distractions. If you have an unfulfilled goal, ask him what barriers stand in the way to complete it. Then, ask for his strength to face those barriers that stand in your way. Confess that you can't do it without his help.

    5.   DRAW A STEP LADDER SHOWING EACH STEP

A prudent man gives thought to his steps. Proverbs 14:15 (NIV)

Know where you are headed, and you will stay on solid ground. Proverbs 4:26 (CEV)

    6.   ENLIST A FRIEND TO WALK WITH ME

It's better to have a partner than go it alone. You get more done working together. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But people who are alone when they fall are in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:10 (MSG/NLT)

ACTION PLAN: A good place to develop deep friendships with accountability is within a small group. Go to the Saddleback Small Groups Page to see groups in your city. Also look at the Weekly Action Steps for more ways to get connected.

    7.   REALIZE MISSTEPS ARE HOW WE LEARN

A righteous person may fall seven times, but he gets up again.  Proverbs 24:16 (GW)

You watch over every step I take, but you won't keep track of my missteps. Job 14:16 (MSG)

    8.   TAKE A BABY STEP EVERY DAY!

(Paul) I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches.  1 Corinthians 9:26 (NLT)

Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way." Colossians 3:17 (MSG)

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Galatians 5:25 (NIV)

God sees my ways and counts every step I take! Job 31:4 (NCV)

ACTION PLAN: In your journal, write down your two goals. Before you go to sleep, write down the baby steps you took toward completing your goals while remembering that the length of each step is not as important as the direction. Ask the Lord to keep you going in the right direction.
