  • HOW TO BUILD A REMARKABLE LIFE

Message Action Plan

How To Build A Remarkable Life

At some point in our childhood, we all learned the three “Rs” of education: reading, writing, and arithmetic. In this message at Saddleback, Pastor Rick and a panel of moms and teachers share a new set of “Rs” — ones that every child needs to lead a remarkable life. You’ll learn what the Bible says about being remarkable through respect, reliability, resourcefulness, and resilience. Find out how to affirm the dignity of everyone around you, be dependable, make the most of what you have, and recover from disappointment. Don’t miss this message that will equip you — and those around you — to live a life of purpose.

Remarkable:Exceptional, outstanding, uncommon, worthy of attention

"Daniel so distinguished himself from all the other leaders by his remarkable qualities that the king planned to put him in charge over the entire empire!"
Daniel 6:3

4 REMARKABLE QUALITIES TO DEVELOP

1.  TO BE REMARKABLE I MUST LEARN TO BE RESPECTFUL TO EVERYONE
RESPECTFUL: to appreciate the uniqueness, value the worth, and affirm the dignity of everyone because God made them.

"If you put yourself above others, you will be put down. But if you humble yourself, you will be honored by others."   Matthew 23:12 (CEV)

"Show real respect to everyone!"   1 Peter 2:17

TO WHOMDOES GOD EXPECT ME TO SHOW RESPECT?

God's Name & Word       Pr.15:33, 22:4, Lev.22:32

My Parents        Lev.9:3

My Spouse        1 Pet.3:7-8, Eph.5:33

Other church members and pastors        Rom.12:10, Heb.13:17

Older people      Lev.19:32

Unbelievers        1 Pet. 3:15-16a

The poor             Pr.14:31

Immigrants         Lev.19:33, Deut.10:19

My opponents/enemies  Matt.5:44-47

Government leaders       Pr.24:21, 1 Pet.2:17

HOW?

"In everything, do to others what you would want them to do to you. This sums up the ALL the Law and the Prophets."  Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

Action Plan:  Choose a group from above that you can do something for this week. Examples: Provide a meal.  Take them shopping.  Go bowling with them.  Go on a walk.

2.  TO BE REMARKABLE I MUST LEARN TO BE RELIABLE
RELIABILITY: being dependable, trustworthy, honest, and loyal

"There are plenty of people who will tell you 'You can trust me!' but it is hard to find someone who is truly trustworthy."  Proverbs 20:6 (CEV)

3 HABITS

1. ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH

"Respected people do not tell lies."  Proverbs 17:7 (TEV)

2. ALWAYS DO WHAT I PROMISE TO DO

"Reliable friends, who do what they say. are like cool drinks in sweltering heat—refreshing!" Proverbs 25:13 (Mes)

"They keep their promises to their neighbors, even when it hurts." Psalm 15:4 (NCV)

3. ALWAYS KEEP CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

"Gossips can't keep secrets, but a trustworthy person can."  Proverbs 11:13 (NCV)

Action Plan: Think about these three habits this week and choose one that you need to particularly focus on. Choose one or two of the verses here to memorize this week.

3. TO BE REMARKABLE I MUST LEARN TO BE RESOURCEFUL
RESOURCEFULNESS: making the most of what I have, and finding solutions to problems that others have overlooked.

Paul: "I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or an empty one, with plenty or with little."  Phil. 4:12 (NLT)
HOW?

4.  TO BE REMARKABLE I MUST LEARN TO BE RESILIENT
RESILIENCE: the ability to bounce back and recover from loss, failure, stress or disappointment

"When good people stumble, even if they fall seven times, they will get back up!"   Proverbs 24:16 (CEV)

Paul: "We're often pressured from every side but we're never crushed; sometimes we don't know what to do, but we never despair; and some-times we're attacked and abused, but God never abandons us; We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going."    2 Cor. 4:8-9 (NLT)

HOW?

Action Plan:  Try reading a chapter from Psalms and a chapter from Proverbs every morning. Write down what God is saying to you through these chapters every day.
