    Prayer That Works

    Steve Stroope | July 3, 2022

We know prayer is important, because Jesus repeatedly showed us how important it is in the New Testament. And of all things the disciples could have asked Jesus to teach them about, they asked him to teach them how to pray. This week, Pastor Steve Stroope talks about the six prerequisites to answered prayer, and how we can start believing that prayer actually works.

    PREREQUISITES TO ANSWERED PRAYER:

    1. ASK

"And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all
      ."
      Matthew 21:22 (NASB)

    2. BELIEVE

"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." James 1:5–8 (NASB)

ACTION PLAN: What dream for God do you have that scares you?  What is causing the fear?  Write out each cause of fear and address them in prayer this week.  If your fear is due to lack of understanding, be sure and ask for wisdom specifically.

    1. RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

"If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you."
      John 15:7 (NASB)

    2. RIGHT RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS

"Therefore, if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there you remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering."
      Matthew 5:23–24 (NASB)

ACTION PLAN: Make a gratitude list for all the things God has forgiven you for.  Is there anyone who has wronged you that you can't seem to forgive?   Go over your gratitude list then ask God to help you forgive them.

    1. IN GOD'S WILL

"This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him." 1 John 5:14-15 (NASB)

    2. IN JESUS' NAME

"You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you." John 15:16 (NASB)

ACTION PLAN: Who is God placing on your heart to pray for so that they may draw closer to a decision for Christ?  Write their names on a few cards and post them around your house.  Be reminded to pray at least 3 times a day for them.
